Takes me back...

You all must have those songs. The ones that take you back to another place and time. Perhaps it's your first time listening to a radio station your mom didn't want you to, your first kiss, learning how to drive, leaving for  college, or maybe just walking around your high school. Tonight, thanks to YouTube, the hubby and I took a walk around our past.  It all started with Bad Religion. I never realized that my husband actually liked them almost as much as I do, I just always thought that he put up with me listening to them. So we listened to 21st Century Digital Boy, Struck a Nerve, Infected, Sorrow and SO many more. Then we moved on to many of the other bands and songs of our generation that meant something to us and pin pointed memories and turning points in our lives: Gin blossoms - Follow You Down, Bush - Comedown, Pearl Jam - Yellow Ledbetter, Everclear - Santa Monica, Counting Crows - Colorblind, Foo Fighters - Everlong, and SO many more. You have to understand that most of the music my husband listens to these days is country, and I don't have any old memories of country as I didn't really start listening to it until college. BUT, now we have just discovered how many songs we both like and have those amazing memories attached. What songs bring back memories for you?

  1. Music is awesome that way!

I can't hear Jump Around ~ House of Pain without instantly smelling Purple Hooter shooters (and in not a good way)...and wanting to dance. I Just Called To Say I Love You ~ Stevie Wonder...the entire bus singing on our way to science camp in 6th grade. You Might Think I'm Crazy ~ The Cars...seeing MTV for the very first time. Honky Tonk Man ~ Dwight Yoakam...my reason for falling back in love with Country Music (even before it was cool again) AND begging for this album for Christmas when I was in 8th grade (along with Poison, of course!). Steve Miller, The Eagles & Journey = my entire summer of '93 ;) For real, I could go on and on and on and on for daaaays.

My life really has been played out with a soundtrack. I grew up with all sorts of different music, but mainly country and whatever was popular @ the time. I clearly remember 'jamming' out in my room, with my Fisher Price record player, to a 45 of The Oakridge Boys ~ Elvira, switching it over to an old Captain & Tenniele to 'groove' to Love Will Keep Us Together, then put on Dolly Parton ~ 9 to 5. Endless hours of fun and amazing memories, courtesy of music!
